About ReadingWise
ReadingWise offers a range of online, evidence-based literacy interventions to support the rapid improvement of reading among those falling behind.
According to the 'simple view of reading', our ability to read well is based on our ability to sound out letters and words (decoding), and our ability to understand those words (comprehension). ReadingWise offers programmes to cover those key areas.
Our Programmes
Decoding is a carefully sequenced, personalised programme that takes a struggling decoder and develops their confidence and capacity to decode.
Comprehension is based on the latest evidence and explicitly teaches a number of comprehension strategies through a narrative-driven programme. It then offers a range of texts alongside these comprehension strategies, empowering pupils to make meaning.
Zip is a supplementary phonics resource for children aged 5 - 7 and is generally used alongside a teachers delivery of a phonics programme. It understands when a pupil has mastered a letter or sounds, and offers teachers a view of progress.
Vocab aims to support the development of a broad and useful vocabulary, focusing particularly on tier 2 words. Like Zip, it also knows when a pupil has mastered the understanding of a word.
In Virtual Schools
ReadingWise is used by virtual schools as it allows children to access the programme both at home and at school, is well evidenced, and offers useful feedback to those looking after the child's education and reading.
