Intervention Description

The Reading Wise intervention is focused at the First 20% of pupils based on their reading levels from Star Reader test. This is a self-lead programme where each pupil may start and finish at different points. Once a pupil has finished the block, their level will depend on if they redo decoding or move on to a different part of the platform. Pupils have completed 1 hour per week on the programme. This was due to the trial aspect of the intervention, along with availability of computer rooms/laptops and staff availability. The intervention consisted of 27 pupils focused at decoding.

Identification of pupils: method

Pupils have been identified as the First 20% based on ranking the Reading Ages of those who have completed the assessment as of February 2025. Pupils who it was felt would engage were set for the initial trial. These pupils were the pupils with the lowest reading scores identified as it was felt that the Decoding element of the trial would be appropriate. Please note that it was also recommended to carry out the BURT assessment on these pupils. Resulting Reading Ages were approximately the same as the Star Reader.
