ReadingWise for Primary Schools

ReadingWise is the ideal solution for primary schools, supporting KS1 & KS2 pupils from year 1 to year 6 (or P1 - P7 pupils). Our evidence-based reading and literacy intervention programmes deliver impact at scale.

ReadingWise is an evidence-based online literacy intervention solution for primary schools. Over 300,000 pupils have benefited from ReadingWise to improve their reading. Our programmes are evidenced to increase reading ages by as much as 10 months in a single term. In a robust, government-funded study across 17 primary schools, pupils’ reading improved almost twice as quickly as those in the control group.

"Reading Wise has been great for our primary school. It was recommended to us from a cluster school and what a difference it has made in such a short time! We have used Reading Wise as a targeted intervention for 10 children as a trial and have been blown away by the results.”

An Online Reading Literacy Programme for Primary Schools

We have carefully developed a full range of reading programmes over time. These programmes - modules as we call them - are in line with the simple view of reading. The Decoding and Comprehension modules are for targeted intervention. The Zip Phonics and Vocab modules have wider applications. Give every child in your primary school the ability to overcome their literacy challenges. Support busy teachers and TAs with a comprehensive literacy solution, using an evidence-based online programme with modules that make a massive difference to literacy and learning outcomes.

Across our modules we offer programmes covering:

“We have seen it as being a highly effective intervention that offers personalised learning to large numbers of children and has a measurable impact in a short amount of time. It’s also great value for money and we receive excellent training and support.”

Exceptional Training and Support

We work very closely with our primary schools for the duration of their subscription. Teachers we work with are delighted by the ongoing support they receive. As Hannah from Irlam Primary says below, our community team are extremely helpful and attentive.

We consider the relationship between your school and us as a partnership with the shared goal of rapidly improving reading. We will do everything we can to achieve this.

Teachers were surveyed during the government-funded study. Over 88% found our training ‘very good’ or ‘excellent.’ The training is efficient - under 2-hours per module - but comprehensive. It will allow your staff to get up and running fast.

"I cannot sing Emily’s praises enough. She is always available if we have any queries and is extremely helpful and attentive. We are extremely impressed with the impact ReadingWise has had in our school and are very excited to continue our journey. I would recommend ReadingWise to any school!"

10 Reasons Why Primary Schools Need a Literacy Intervention Programme

Here are ten reasons why primary schools need to consider a literacy intervention programme:

  1. Enhancing reading skills and educational outcomes for every pupil from year 1 through to preparing for the Key Stage 2 tests (SATs).
  2. A ReadingWise literacy intervention programme can be tailored to address specific requirements, including for pupils with SEND and for your EAL learners.
  3. Utilising your data and reading assessment results, the programme can identify students who require additional support and provide appropriate, targeted interventions.
  4. Implementing a unified literacy programme can ensure efficiency and timesaving for your teachers.
  5. ReadingWise solves the problem for teachers and teaching assistants: “Where do I start?”; “How do I use my time most effectively to improve reading?" Our programme includes excellent training.
  6. An online literacy intervention programme can help teachers support parents and guardians too. ReadingWise is accessible both at home and at school.
  7. Money is certainly not everything, but pupils who leave school with higher English grades and greater levels of reading fluency tend to earn more. Adults with lower levels of literacy earn 7.1% less than those with better reading.
  8. Literacy interventions can help you to change lives. In primary schools, 20% of children don’t achieve the expected reading level before leaving school. Today “1 in 6 (16.4%) adults in England are estimated to have very low literacy.” (OECD, 2016).
  9. The consequences of this can range anywhere from unemployment to falling into criminal activity. According to the World Literacy Foundation, a 2018 study found that “illiteracy is estimated to cost the UK economy approximately £80 billion [per year].
  10. Tragically, there’s a clear correlation between illiteracy, the ability to find work, and crime. A Ministry of Justice (MoJ) report in 2022 found that “57% of adults in prison in the UK have a reading level below that of an average 11-year-old.”

It’s easy to see how many of life’s rich possibilities are denied to those who struggle to read. We know that without extra support and timely intervention, educational and vocational outcomes for themcan be poor.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. We know that, given the right tools, everyone can learn to read. We know that because we have seen it for ourselves.

So join us and let’s work together to improve reading. We’ve reached over 300,000 pupils with the wonderful schools and teachers across the UK. We’d love to help you too.
