“Primarily, the pupils like it because they are working independently, they don’t have a teacher or a learning assistant breathing down their neck, and they don’t feel patronised.”

Feedback on ReadingWise. All of the remaining pupils are enjoying the programme bar one. (One long term absence due to health, one non attender and one left altogether) The pupil who is not enjoying it does not want to be removed from class, and this is more the issue than the actual programme. Most sessions the pupils wish to stay longer rather than head back to class, although I can’t always facilitate this! Although the content of the programme could be described as very plain visually, the pupils actually respond well to this – some have described being able to concentrate more fully without being distracted by the usual ‘kid-friendly’ graphics and bright colours. The overlearning aspect of the programme is allowing them to see success, as their inaccuracies are corrected by the end of each session and they are given plenty of chances to get the answer right. Primarily, the pupils like it because they are working independently, they don’t have a teacher or a learning assistant breathing down their neck, and they don’t feel patronised.
